Case Study: The Aberdeen Health Foundation

ahf logoThe Aberdeen Health Foundation (AHF) was established in 1986 with the simple and meaningful mission to enhance health care in Pictou County, Nova Scotia. To sustain this mission, Frank H. and Irene Sobey created and endowed the Frank H. and Irene Sobey Trust to support the technology and equipment needs of the Aberdeen Hospital. Over the years, the Trust facilitated numerous equipment acquisitions and supported professional recruitment of physicians to Pictou County. In 2014, as a response to the evolving needs of the health care system, the Sobey Foundation wound up the Trust and made an $8 million gift to the AHF to ensure that it and the Aberdeen Hospital have the capacity to continue to provide essential health care support to Pictou County and North Eastern Nova Scotia.

The AHF supports numerous facets of health care delivery within the Aberdeen Hospital, including: patient care technology, innovative methods in treatment, better facilities as well as professional development and support for health care workers. In addition to its direct support of the Hospital, the AHF’s holistic approach to health care funding benefits multiple organizations committed to enhancing health care in Pictou County. These include; Kids First, Pictou County Early Intervention and the Tearmann Society.
