Established in 1986, the Aberdeen Health Foundation (AHF) in Pictou County, N.S., has been a vital part of initiatives to enhance local health care. The Foundation's journey began with the Frank H. and Irene Sobey Trust, endowed by its namesake founders to support the Aberdeen Hospital's technology and equipment needs. Over the years, this Trust played a crucial role in acquiring essential medical equipment and attracting medical professionals to the region.

In 2014, in response to the evolving healthcare landscape, the Sobey Foundation dissolved the Trust and donated a significant $8 million to the AHF. This generous contribution ensures the AHF and Aberdeen Hospital continue to offer critical healthcare services to Pictou County and northeastern Nova Scotia.

The AHF’s support extends beyond equipment and technology; it embraces innovative treatment methods, facility improvements, and professional development for healthcare workers. Its holistic approach also benefits several local health organizations including Kids First, Pictou County Early Intervention, and the Tearmann Society; initiatives that highlight its commitment to a comprehensive healthcare system.
