Food Bank Partners with Sobey Foundation
Initiative helps North York Harvest Food Bank provide support, stability, and strengthen its community.
The North York Harvest Food Bank, a cornerstone of northern Toronto, has been a beacon of support for the community, especially during its strategic relocation in 2015. In this crucial phase, the Food Bank formed a significant partnership with the Sobey Foundation, which agreed to cover all rental costs for the new facility over a five-year period.
This collaboration with the Sobey Foundation emerged as a lifeline during a time of emergency. Sobeys Ontario, having been a long-standing supporter of the NYHFB through financial and in-kind contributions, furthered their commitment through the Foundation’s support.
This innovative approach to meeting the food bank’s capital needs marked a critical turning point. Thanks to the Sobey Foundation’s backing, the North York Harvest Food Bank has been able to redirect its fundraising efforts towards its primary mission: distributing over two-million pounds of food annually. Through its network of sixty community programs, the Food Bank reaches a wide expanse of citizens across North Toronto, providing essential support to those in need.
This partnership exemplifies the power of community collaboration and corporate responsibility. The Sobey Foundation’s commitment not only ensured the food bank’s stability during a challenging transition but also reinforced its ability to focus on its core function of feeding the hungry, thereby strengthening the fabric of the North Toronto community.
